April began her professional career as an attorney in Massachusetts, where she was born and raised. She graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis in 2007 and received her law degree at Boston University in 2010. After two years in legal practice, April decided to return to her original passion, working with children and young adults, and taught at a private school in Weston, MA.

In 2013, April moved to Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA to study Relational Gestalt Practice with Dorothy Charles and Gestalt Awareness Practice with Christine Price. At present, she continues to study with them as well as coordinating various groups and long term gestalt study programs at Tribal Ground Circle, a collective of practitioners whose work has evolved from the lineage of Richard Price, gestalt teacher and co-founder of Esalen Institute.

In addition to her gestalt training, April completed a traineeship in a Santa Cruz County Alternative Education Program working with high-school-age students and their families. She graduated in 2018 from the California Institute of Integral Studies with a Master's Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology. April practices now as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Shine a Light Counseling Center with offices in Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
